Financial Comptroller

Our Client is a leading Conglomerate in Nigeria. Within the group is the Cleaning Services, Hotels, Waste Management, Trading, Safety & Security etc. In line with the Group’s desire to ensure key roles are filled with individuals with the requisite skills and experience, our Client is seeking to engage the services of a suitable individual to fill the role of Financial Comptroller for the Group.

Detailed Job Description:

The successful candidate will be reporting directly to the Group Managing Director.
  • Oversee and drive the development of the Group’s financial strategy, work plans and programs, to ensure alignment with the Group’s strategy, goals and objectives.

  • Oversee the development of the Group’s corporate budget and the allocation of financial resources.

  • Ensure effective utilisation of the financial resources of the Group including achieving cost efficiency in line with its business objectives.

  • Oversee the finance functions of all the subsidiaries in the Group

  • Drive the preparation of financial reports to Board members for presentation/ discussion at quarterly Board meetings

  • Coordinate the identification of risks and medium to long term financial implications of intended corporate projects/ initiatives, and provide relevant advice to the Group’s executive management and the Board.

  • Serve as technical resource for the company on issues relating to the interpretation of accounting, tax regulatory issues.

  • Coordinate the proactive monitoring and reporting of financial positions.

  • Oversee the timely, accurate generation of relevant financial information/ reports to aid the Group’s executive management strategic decision making.

  • Ensure proactive and accurate generation of relevant reports to aid management’s decision making process.

  • Prepare and submit periodic management reports and activities.

  • Ensure timely and accurate preparation of the Group’s financial statements in line with relevant statutory requirements and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).

  • Coordinate timely preparation of the Group’s financial statements ensuring that the statement reflects the financial position and comply with statutory and regulatory requirements.

  • Liaise/ manage the external audit process and take responsibility for the annual report

  • Responsible for driving the monthly MPR session

  • Manage risks and returns on the Group’s financial resources by constantly seeking to maximize the Group’s value.

  • Articulate, develop and implement procedures and controls to ensure that the Group’s funding requirements are proactively anticipated and met at a reasonable cost.

  • Develop and maintain strategic relationships with key banks and other financial institutions.

  • Proactively manage and monitor the Group’s cash-flows, ensure optimal cash management and implement best practice treasury management practices.

  • Ensure optimal capital expenditure and working capital management for the Group and ensure that the Group has sufficient liquidity to meet its medium-term requirements and banking obligations.

  • Prepare and participate in quarterly investor calls with MD/CEO, as required.

  • Conduct presentations to current and potential investors.

  • Work closely with the company secretary in the preparation and management of Annual General Meetings

  • Oversee the establishment of efficient controls to mitigate identified financial risks.

  • Ensure the development, implementation and compliance to delegation of authority framework.

  • Authorize expenditure/ transactions in line with the Group’s approved financial authority limits.

  • Develop and maintain strategic relationships with relevant regulatory authorities.

  • Coordinate the development and implementation of finance and accounting policies, processes and procedures in line with leading practices.

  • Ensure all recommendations from the External Auditors’ Management Letters are adequately addressed.

  • Responsible for managing taxation affairs of the business – CITA, PAYE, WHT, VAT

  • Ensure that quarterly and annual returns to NSE and SEC are done on a timely basis.

  • Ensure the establishment and implementation of best practice financial activities supported by sound financial discipline in line with the Group’s finance policies.

  • Oversee the preparation of the Finance department’s annual budget and monitor its implementation.

  • Manage the resources of the Finance department to optimize performance and output.

  • Oversee and coordinate the day-to-day activities of the department and provide overall leadership and guidance to subordinates.

  • Assign detailed responsibilities to direct reports and supervise them to ensure timely and high quality results.

  • Manage the career and developmental needs of all Finance staff.

  • Motivate, guide, and ensure knowledge transfer and capacity-building of Finance staff.

  • Continuously review the Finance department’s activities and make recommendations for improvement to the CEO.

  • Ensure the establishment and implementation of an effective internal control system at company level.

  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the MD/ CEO.

Qualification and Experience

  • Must have experience in manufacturing environment.

  • Experience with fund raising activities and requirements. 

  • Excellent understanding of new International reporting standard.

  • Ability to prepare and analyze weekly, monthly, and quarterly gross margin per product.

  • Must be able to analyze inventory and margin reports.

  • Must be able to prepare bank reconciliation documents on a weekly and monthly basis.

  • Must be able to prepare suppliers credit policies and cash flow management.

  • Very good inventory/ material unit costing

  • Ability to use appropriate accounting packages and applications.

  • Must be able to manage bank loans and credit processes and ability to negotiate contractual terms and agreements.

  • Must have managed the financial processes of an organization with turnover in excess of N25billion/annum.

  • Ability to reconcile and manage all foreign exchange transactions.

  • Prepare and manage Form M, Form NXPs documents, and reconcile with the banks and CBN.

  • Ability to conduct industry/competitor analysis and prepare management information data for executive decision. 

  • Must be a chartered Accountant (ACCA/ ICAN) with a minimum of an HND Degree.

  • 12-15 years’ experience.
